How does the Brexit affect Amcor?

According to a report from Citi analyst Richard Johnson, packaging producer Amcor will take a hit from volatile foreign exchange markets but should avoid any major calamities from Britain's so called Brexit from the European Union.

Amcor's direct exposure to the UK is at aroung AUD 439 million, a considerably low number for the world's largest packaging producer. Sales in Western Europe are USD 3,092 million, which accounts for 32% of the groups total revenue.

Amcor about to close plants in the UK and Belgium

Last week Amcor announced that plant closures are an option to streamline their business and increase profits. This week there were reports from plants in the UK and Belgium which will be affected by Amcor's plans. According to media reports 74 jobs (of 360) at Amcor Flexbiles Cumbria plant in Workington, UK are at risk, as well as 244 jobs at Amcor Flexibles Transpac in Halen, Belgium. For the latter one, this means full closure of the plant.

Amcor to shut down plants in Europe

The worlds largest packaging producer Amcor has announced to structure or close several plants in developed markets. Collectively these initiatives are expected to generate a pre-tax return of approximately 35% on the cash invested within three years, delivering a profit before interest and tax benefit of US$40 million to US$50 million. The total cash investment is expected to be US$120 million to US$150 million across the 2017 and 2018 financial years.
