RKW invests over EUR 5 million

The packaging producer RKW invested more than EUR 5 million in the Echte, Germany based plant. By end of this year RKW put a new highly automated 10 colour flexo press into operation, and expanding capacity for the self-venting ProVent plastic bag and other industrial bag solutions. RKW’s investment also includes a colour mixing system and various modernisation measures. The flexo press is equipped with an automatic colour management system.

According to RKW they have sold more than 350 million bags with RKW ProVent.

Uflex about to start CI flexo press production

At drupa Italian manufacturer Comiflex has agreed with Uflex Limited to manufacture gearless CI flexo printing presses under a technology transfer agreement with the Uflex. The Indian manufacturer will market and sell these machines across the world.

Comiflex was founded by Gianfranco Nespoli who has more than 50 years of experience in this industry. He is one of the founding members of Flexotecnica that was founded in 1979 .

Flexo with water-based inks at drupa

According to KBA-Flexotecnica their new NEO XD LR Hybrid is the only CI flexo press which is doing print runs with low-migration water-based inks at drupa.

The press is designed to print solvent-based, water-based as well as UV-LED or EB inks on most substrates.

The NEO XD LR Hybrid is available with up to 12 printing units, printing lengths up to 1,200mm, a maximum printing width of 1,650 mm and a maximum production speed of 500m/min.

New Soma press with plenty of advanced solutions

The obvious change is width, it is now up to 1270 mm (50 inch) wide. Following on from the success of the Optima mid web press launched at K 2013 with over 35 presses sold, the wider web Optima 2 version was developed.


And the new Optima² boasts a broad range of advancements which were inspired by closely listening to both needs of printers, and ideas of the design team headed by Jan Verner.


The development of the Optima² started in 2013, and had three primary goals: faster set up, less waste and reduction of plate bounce.

„Printing Press Acceptance Tests in Flexographic Printing with Measurable Criteria“

The performance evaluation of a flexographic printing press based on printed products is problematic and very subjective from observer to observer. Scientific approaches and publications on this subject are scarcely available. A technological guideline for acceptance tests is very helpful during the installation of a flexographic printing press or for maintenance routines. Pre-defined operations and testing methods as well as nominal values allow comparability and build the foundation for a standardized press acceptance testing procedure.
